Here at First Covenant Church we have a Disciple program called DtO (Defy The Odds). This is a 2 year program that is available for 7th & 8th graders. Throughout those 2 years these students go through the entire Bible, and also learn Spiritual Disciplines. They also are taught how to do Devotions, Memorize Scripture, and take sermon notes, and why these habits are important.
Leaders for the grade and gender open up their home every other weekend to these students coming over for what we call "LifeGroup". This gives the students time to reflect on what we talked about in the lesson the week before, as well as to just bond & talk about life,scripture, and struggles that they are facing. In LifeGroups they pray for each other, they lean on each other, and help one another. This is a group that students know is a safe place to come and talk, and where they will be encouraged and not judged.
Once the students have finished the 2 years, we recognize them on a Sunday morning in front of everyone. The students receive a Life Application Study Bible with their name engraved on it. What better of a way to continue to dig into God's word as they continue to grow.
See... told ya I had a GREAT job! I get to come alongside these students, build relationships with them, guide them, and direct them in the ways of Christ! Can it get any better? NOPE!!! I have the best job!!! ;)
